Curbside Recycling


The Town of Burgaw contracts trash and recycling through GFL who is responsible for collection, carts, dumpsters and extra paid pick-ups.

Trash is picked up every Wednesday and recycling is picked up every other Wednesday on a rotating schedule. All roll carts must be by the curb no later than 7 AM. If a holiday falls on a Wednesday, please see the schedule by GFL or call Town Hall at (910) 259-2151 for new pick-up dates.

  • Additional charged pick-ups by GFL can be scheduled through Town Hall or Public Works.
  • You must call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an extra pick-up.
  • For broken, lost or stolen carts please call Town Hall or use our online form.
  • Cardboard needs to be broken down inside your roll cart, if it is too big to fit inside please put it between your trash and recycle roll cart for pick-up. Public Works will not pick-up extra cardboard.

Accepted Plastic Recycling

  • Includes all CLEANED plastic bottles and jars #1 thru #7, check the bottom of the container. If you see the recycling symbol with a #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 in the center, it is acceptable.
    • Soft drink bottles
    • Milk jugs
    • Detergent bottles
    • FLATTENED cartons, etc.

Disposal of items not accepted

The following locations accept certain items that are not picked up by the Town of Burgaw or Waste Industries. Please always call ahead to make sure your items are still accepted for recycling.

Rechargeable Lithium Batteries & Cellphones

Home Depot or Lowes –

  • Look for the Call 2 Recycle boxes at the entrance of each store. Many locations in Wilmington have the boxes.
Single Use BatteriesCurrently there are no locations close that recycle these batteries, however they are safe to dispose of if they have no charge left.
Electronic Recycling


  •  Offers electric recycling at all their locations. Please see their website for a list of accepted electronics including household electronics.
