Members
The Board of Commissioners consists of five commissioners and a mayor. The Board is elected by the qualified voters of the Town of Burgaw. Each member serves a four year term with terms being staggered by holding an election every two years (odd numbered years). The mayor and two commissioners are elected in one election. Two years later, the remaining three commissioners are elected. No person shall be eligible to be a candidate or be elected as a member of the Board of Commissioners or to serve in such capacity, unless he/she is a resident and a qualified voter of the Town of Burgaw. Candidates must be 21 years of age or older.
Regular Meetings
Regular Board of Commissioners Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 4:30 PM. The meetings are held at the Burgaw Town Center located at 108 E Wilmington St, Burgaw.
Meeting Timeline
The first hour of the meeting consists of general business and special presentations. At 5:30 pm the Board breaks for ten minutes in order for the public to sign up for the public forum and public hearing time.
If you desire to address the Board during the public forum time please be present at 5:30 pm to sign up. You will be granted three minutes to speak your concerns to the Board. You must also be present and signed in to speak at a public hearing.
Upon reconvening after the break, the public forum and public hearings are held. After the public forum and public hearings are complete the Board attends to the remaining business on the agenda.
