Burgaw Police Department has a check welfare program established for residents in town. A member of the Burgaw Police Department telephones members of the community who are home-bound, senior citizens, in-firmed or impaired, living alone, or would otherwise benefit from receiving a phone call to check their welfare.
In the event that contact is not made within a reasonable time-frame, a patrol officer is dispatched to the address and/or family is contacted in order to check on the person. Participants are contacted by phone one to three days per week, depending upon need.
