Police Programs

R U Ok?

Burgaw Police Department has a check welfare program established for residents in town. A member of the Burgaw Police Department telephones members of the community who are home-bound, senior citizens, in-firmed or impaired, living alone, or would otherwise benefit from receiving a phone call to check their welfare.

In the event that contact is not made within a reasonable time-frame, a patrol officer is dispatched to the address and/or family is contacted in order to check on the person. Participants are contacted by phone one to three days per week, depending upon need.

Cram the Cruiser

Each year in July and August, school supplies and donations are collected so that children from families who are not able to afford required supplies, may begin the new school year prepared. Since its launch in 2011, Cram the Cruiser has helped many families.

Last year 85 students throughout the Town of Burgaw received backpacks with supplies and several crates of supplies were dropped off at local schools for distribution.

Shop with a Cop

Shop with a Cop is a community outreach program that aims to promote positive interactions between local children, families, and police officers. The program is designed to benefit children and families who have financial hardships that could use some special attention and financial assistance during the Christmas holiday. The children and officers spend time together getting to know each other, shopping for families, and participating in other fun activities.

Bike Rodeo

The Burgaw Police Department, along with the support from local churches, hosts a bike rodeo. At the rodeo, Burgaw residents can register their bicycles, receive traffic and safety awareness training, have safety checks performed on their bikes, and run through a skills and obstacle course. At the conclusion of the rodeo, children receive a certificate of completion.

Step (Formerly GHSP)

The Burgaw Police Department is proud to partner with the Statewide Traffic Enforcement Program Reporting System. STEP conducts safety programs which promote highway safety.

Child Safety Seat

The Burgaw Police Department has certified car seat technicians who are able to assist in installing or checking car seats. "Engaging in a Child Safety Seat visit is an educational experience."

Driving While Intoxicated Trailer

The DWI trailer is utilized to aid in the detection and enforcement of driving while intoxicated offenses. Funding for the equipment was provided by a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Program.
